10 Millionth Point Marked in NBA History

The NBA has already marked its ten millionth score in regular season last January 9, 2010 during the Sixers-Pistons game. It has been 63 years since the first basket was made in NBA history by New York’s Ossie Schectman dated November 1, 1946 at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. The 10 millionth NBA score was made by Detroit Pistons Ben Gordon with his successful jumpshot at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit, Michigan. It was in the second quarter with only 3:51 in the clock remaining when the 10,000,000^th point in NBA game history was made.

Let’s look back at NBA’s million point milestone history:

Ø      The first millionth point (1,000,000) occurred in Detroit-Chicago, New York-Boston or Syracuse-San Francisco game dated Dec.22,1962.

Ø      The two millionth point (2,000,000) was made in Baltimore-Phoenix or Detroit-Buffalo game on Jan. 9, 1972.

Ø      The three millionth point (3,000,000) happened Feb, 17, 1978 in Indiana-Washington, Buffalo-Kansas City, Detroit-New York, New Jersey-Cleveland, or Philadelphia-San Antonio game.

Ø      Feb 18, 1983 marked the four millionth point (4,000,000) by Philadelphia's Moses Malone on a tip-in of own miss at 11:59 of the first quarter against Houston.

Ø      Utah's Rickey Green on 24-foot 3-pointer as buzzer sounded ending third quarter against Cleveland made the five millionth point (5,000,000) on Jan.25, 1988.

Ø      The six millionth point (6,000,000) was made March 23, 1992 by Atlanta's Stacey Augmon on driving layup at 7:41 of second quarter against Golden State.

Ø      The seven millionth point (7,000,000) was made by Seattle's Hersey Hawkins on a running 12-foot jumper at 4:42 of the fourth quarter against Utah.

Ø      New Jersey's Eddie Gill on a layup with 10:37 remaining in the fourth quarter against Boston marked the eight millionth (8,000,000) point dated April 15, 2001.

Ø      Nine millionth point (9,000,000) was made by Portland's Juan Dixon on a layup with 7:17 remaining in the second quarter against Philadelphia Dec. 28, 2005.

Ø      The recent ten millionth point (10,000,000) in NBA history, scored by Detroit's Ben Gordon on a jumpshot with 3:51 remaining in the second quarter against Philadelphia last Saturday, Jan. 9,2010.
